Why we Roll

Dice add randomness to a game, so even if your character is particularly skilled at something they could still fail—same for the reverse. Dice are rolled whenever Skills are being used, Combat encounters, Character Creation, and anytime the Game Master allows dice use.
Number of Dice d number of sides on dice + roll modifiers
  • 1d20 = One twenty-sided dice
  • 4d6 = Four six-sided dice
  • 1d8+3 = One eight-sided dice + three to its roll result
The only exception to the rule is 1d100, also called percentile dice. 1d100s are ten-sided but they have an extra zero after each number. To generate a 1d100, roll a 1d10 and multiply by 10, or roll a 1d100 if you have a percentile dice. You also roll an extra 1d10 and add the results. E.g. you roll a 1d100 and the side with the 70 is facing up, then you roll a 1d10 and the side with a 1 is facing up. Your results total to 71.

Here is a more in depth look into dice and the various ways to roll for character creation as well. The pdf is fully printable.
